Recordkeeping for Good Governance

Archives and their allies – recordkeeping for good governance

A session of the 16th International Congress on Archives, 24 July 2008, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The work of the archivist is seen to be one of the main pillars of good governance. Our institutions have an important role in supporting public sector integrity and accountability.

However there are other government institutions, such as auditors-general, that fully understand the vital importance of keeping good records as an enabler of good governance.

The aim of this session was to hear from these other accountability and integrity institutions – these natural allies of archives – about how they think archives can work with them to help further the causes of good public recordkeeping and accountable and more efficient public administration.
