Introduction to records management in the Australian Public Service (IRAPS)

Description

This one-day course is a mix of the ’how’ and ‘why’ of good records management, with an emphasis on the practical knowledge and skills needed by records management staff. The course covers:

  1. Overview of records management in the APS
  2. Records management essentials:
    • Create, capture and describe
    • Secure, store and preserve
    • Keep, destroy and transfer
  3. How the Archives can assist agencies with records management.

In addition to information, advice and tips, the course includes a number of exercises to help participants develop a better practical understanding of the concepts that the course introduces.

Please note that the course content was revised in January 2008 and no longer includes detailed sentencing training. A separate half-day course, Introduction to sentencing, is now being offered.
