The records used in this site are only a small sample of the material documenting the lives of Muslim Australians in the National Archives collection.

Some of the main types of records are introduced in the Fragments section of the site. Many details of the lives of ordinary Muslims can be gleaned from the range of forms and documents generated by the activities of the Australian Government in areas such as immigration and defence.

For more information, or to begin your own research, you can explore the National Archives' holdings on migration, citizenship and travel. You can also find out more about the services the Archives offers to family historians.

RecordSearch, the National Archives collection database, provides access to individual items and can be searched by name or keyword. You can also browse through more than 100,000 images using PhotoSearch. A search on 'mosque', for example, displays 174 photographs of mosques around the country from the 1930s to the 1990s.
