Assistant Director-General, Access and Communication

Anne Lyons has been with the National Archives since August 2004 as Assistant Director-General, Access and Communication. Under Anne’s leadership, the Access and Communication branch develops exhibitions and public programs, marketing programs, publications and websites, and provides reference services and digitised access to records. For Anne, one of the highlights has been the move to the web as our primary means of service delivery and the large increase in use of National Archives records by people online.

Before coming to the Archives, Anne managed the Marketing and Communications Department for the Australian Federal Police during the challenging period following the Bali bombings in 2002.

At the National Archives,  Anne has overseen the introduction of the national digitisation service, allowing people to request and see records online. She has been responsible for the successful launch of the new gallery, Memory of a Nation, as well as A Gift to the Nation, a project in which records of the 376,000 Australians who served in World War I were made available online.

Anne has spent the past 20 years working in the communications and marketing fields, starting as a country journalist and moving eventually into public sector management. She is currently a member of the Daramalan College Board in Canberra and a member of the National Archives choir, Archivally Sound.
